‘Carved Cake Design’ started in 2013, under the name: Afton Rodrigues’ Kitchen, in Petaling Jaya. And started with selling Cakes, Cupcakes, Cookies, Pies and Breads which were inspired by the latest trends in the baking world. In 2016, we closed Afton Rodrigues’ Kitchen, to work overseas and gain experience all around the world.

We came back to Malaysia in 2020, where we fired up our new oven under a new name; Carved Cake Design and look forward to becoming a big part of the local baking community.

We specialize in the rich, sweet and delicious. Whenever possible we use the freshest locally produced or distributed ingredients in our products. We crack our own eggs every day. We use top of the line gourmet ingredients in all our recipes. The “look” of our baked goods could be described as stylish and simple, refined yet interesting. The taste; delicious and homemade!

Our Story

Meet Paul and Afton, the driving force behind Carved Cake Design. 


Paul (a Private Chef from The Netherlands) and Afton (a Pastry Chef from Sabah) first got to know each other when they met on holiday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Realizing that they had the same passions in life, they knew from the start they could be a great team and soon started dreaming of opening their own Café or Bakery together. 

They have since been working together all over the world. From the Americas and the Caribbean to Europe and the Mediterranean. 

In 2020, Paul and Afton decided move back to Malaysia and finally open their Café/Bakery in the KL area. But due to Covid19 the plans changed, and they are now focusing on Carved Cake Design first, before opening their Café/Bakery.

Afton

Afton started as a Baker and Caterer in Kuala Lumpur in 2013, specializing Breads, Cakes and Pastries as well as Catering for events. Until the end of 2016, when she left Malaysia to work together with Paul overseas.

Being a fan of high-end desserts, and not a big fan of the ‘standard buttercream’ filling, Afton is always looking for different and more luxurious flavours to make and fill her cakes. Now Afton’s cakes stand out, for their luscious fillings made from premium ingredients.

Paul 

Paul has been working as a Chef for 25 years and was working in restaurants and hotels even before he went to Culinary School. He proudly followed in his father’s footsteps.

In 2010 Paul started working as a Private Chef in the Mega Yacht Industry. And he got to travel all around the world while cooking for the rich and famous, on some of the most luxurious yachts in the world. 

Paul started making celebration cakes on the yachts, for charter guests, yacht owners and crew members. Paul likes a challenge when comes to cakes, especially where it involves sculpting. So, instead of making a simple cake or just ordering a cake from a bakery ashore, he would stay up late at night to make something entirely different and always specially designed for each of his clients. 

Even with bad weather at sea, and limited time between cooking for the whole boat, he would end up making a unique cake.
